The history of Hindu College Colombo is intertwined with the legacy of its Old Boys’ Association, an organization that has consistently strived to preserve the college’s heritage and foster a spirit of unity among its alumni. In this article, we explore the remarkable journey of the Hindu College Colombo Old Boys’ Association (HCCOBA).

Inauguration of Hindu College Colombo Old Boys’ Association (HCCOBA)

The Hindu College Old Boys’ Association was established on September 28th, 1986, a mere 35 years after the founding of Hindu College Colombo itself. In the first inaugural meeting, the Principal being the Patron of the association referred, HCCOBA established with a view to the strengthening of the ties of past students and school. During this inaugural meeting, a constitution was adopted, and elections of office-bearers took place. HCCOBA’s establishment marked the realization among the alumni of Hindu College that their shared experiences and education could serve as a powerful foundation for collective growth and social development.

Early Years and Evolution

In its early years, HCCOBA primarily focused on fostering a sense of fellowship and support among its alumni. The HCCOBA organized regular reunions, cultural events, and sports competitions, providing a platform for old boys to relive their college memories. HCCOBA not only allowed former students to reconnect with their roots but also provided a platform for the exchange of ideas and experiences for the betterment of CHC. This sense of brotherhood and unity not only helped alumni connect on a personal level but also paved the way for more significant initiatives towards the development of the school. This camaraderie has been a driving force behind HCCOBA’s continued success.

Even though the Government declared Hindu College Colombo a National School on September 11th, 1991, funding and related support were not sufficient for the development of the school. OBA got involved in the financial management aspects of infrastructure development. As time passed, HCCOBA recognized the potential to make a lasting impact on society.
